Carrying the Message

The AODA Volunteers are recovering people who share their experience, strength, and hope at various facilities in Waukesha County.  We come from all walks of life and varying economic, occupational, and social backgrounds. The vital common thread is our experiences with alcohol and/or drug addiction, and we share but one primary objective:

“…carrying the message to the alcoholic [or addict] who still suffers”

Tradition 5, Alcoholics Anonymous

The message we carry to others is HOPE!

By giving it away, we keep what has been freely given to us…

We don’t fuss with rationale on how or why this works, it just does.  We leave it at that. Perhaps the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous said it best:

“Because it has now become plain enough that only a recovered alcoholic can do much for a sick alcoholic, a tremendous responsibility has descended upon us all, an obligation so great that it amounts to a sacred trust. For to our kind, those who suffer alcoholism, recovery is a matter of life or death…”

“We are average Americans. All sections of this country and many of its occupations are represented, as well as many political, economic, social, and religious backgrounds. We are people who normally would not mix. But there exists among us a fellowship, friendliness, and an understanding which is indescribably wonderful....”
